Dental Implants

Dental implants are a great way of replacing one or more missing teeth. They can improve how you eat and speak, prevent shrinkage of the jawbone, and keep existing teeth firmly in place.

Dental implants are unique to every patient, therefore require a detailed assessment and treatment plan. If you feel dental implants could be a solution for you then kindly call us on 0208 642 1842 and book a free consultation today with our Implantologist, Dr. Alkesh Patel.

What are dental implants?

The dental implants themselves are tiny titanium metal rods which are gently placed into your jawbone. Over a few months your jawbone bonds with the rods to form, in effect, a false tooth root.

Our dental implants offer a lasting solution to tooth loss, whether you have the odd gap in your smile or no teeth at all. They are a reliable way to replace teeth as they provide a firm foundation for crowns, bridges or dentures.

Should I worry about having an implant?

Implant surgery is actually surprisingly easy from the patient’s perspective, with many patients saying it is much less traumatic than a tooth extraction or root canal treatment. The first stage is a thorough examination and evaluation with us to ensure that you are suitable for implant treatment. Some patients may need to undergo treatment to improve the health of their gums, or to increase the amount of bone in the implant site. Once this is successfully completed, the implant can be placed.

How long will a dental implant take?

The actual implant placement surgery can take less than an hour with more complicated cases taking longer. The area around the implant is completely numbed up, so you won’t feel anything. If you are particularly nervous about the procedure, we can offer you sedation.

You do not have to have a gap in your teeth during treatment – we will be able to provide you with a comfortable, temporary replacement. After your surgery, we will see you regularly to ensure that everything is healing well.

After around 3 months, your dental implant should be completely integrated with your jaw bone, and we will be able to place your new crown or bridge.

Aftercare

You need to maintain good oral hygiene following treatment to ensure your implants remain trouble-free. We encourage you to create a regular brushing and flossing routine, resulting in your implant to last for over 15 years.
